ACEN - Hotel Room - Roommate Wanted! [Apr. 20th, 2009|03:17 pm]
Does anyone need a room for ACEN this year? There is space for 1 more person and it's in the actual Hyatt (the main hotel). An extra roommate would greatly help out with the costs and stuff. Please please please recommend only people that are 200% for sure about attending and paying their share of the room! EDIT: Yeah, I should probably let you know that you'll be rooming with 2 people, Pernell Vaughn and Chris Wisner. Oops! Sorry aboot forgetting to post that! END OF EDIT

Thank you thank you!!!

Akira Jimbo Is My Hero [Jan. 15th, 2009|08:43 pm]
Bigger sheep! Baby sheep!!!

One of my favorite videos of Akira Jimbo showing his incredible skills on his "MIDI Drum Trigger System". The song he plays after his interview sounds a lot like the theme from "Four Side" in Earthbound!

Enjoy!

... On Such a Winter's Day... [Dec. 12th, 2008|01:46 pm]
I don't recognize that bright yellow thing in the sky. I want to stare at it. It makes me feel warm and makes me smile. It makes me want to go out and do stuff even though it's freezing cold outside.

I think I was a plant in the previous life. I probably spent my days in Earth's Great Garden using the powerful energy of the Sun to create complex carbohydrates and sugars. Maybe I played with Caterpillars and Lady Bugs.

The local NBC news reported that Central Ohio experienced more cloudy days than Seattle, Washington this year. Ugh. Too bad the Grunge music scene never really took off here (as it was purported to be a long time ago...)

Stress and madness and craziness aside, I love the Holiday season: spending even more time with friends and family, wonderful seasonal foods, hell I even enjoy venturing out to the mall to watch crazy people plow through each other to get a copy of Hannah Montana for the Nintendo DS. It emphasizes what little sanity I have in MY life.

I just hate Winter weather. Wait, no I don't. I can deal with the cold. I love wearing layers and layers of clothing. It's like wearing a suit of armor (the best feeling is coming home, removing my battle gear, and hiding under a blanket on the couch to play video games or watch a movie). I just hate shoveling my driveway and driving in snow.

And the title of this journal entry is false. The Winter Solstice is December 21st. Another ugh.

I'm counting down the days until Spring...

Summer!!! [Jun. 1st, 2008|03:08 pm]
[Current Mood | Yeeee!]

Yay. June 1st. For me, this marks the first day of Summer (who cares about that Summer Solstice mumbo jumbo) When the topic of dinner came up last night while hanging out with friends, I immediately threw in the option of finding a restaurant with a nice patio. Gotta love Spagio's on Grandview ^_^ I even managed to run into a few classmates from high school: our server was a girl who used to be my chemistry lab partner who I also helped get addicted to Ranma 1/2 and P-chan. And then a couple of other girls from my class walked by and stopped to chat while we were finishing up dinner.

I just cleaned my car. I'm about to head out and find me a new pair of sandals. And then afterwards, I'm running around campus and The Wexner Center for the Arts with a buddy of mine.

Festivals, gallery/community "hops", chilling outside on a patio, and driving around with the sunroof open...

I love Summer.

And to help usher in the season, here's our good ole buddy, Will Smith:

I'm hoping the rest of the album sounds like this because it seems like they're going back to The Blue album and Pinkerton. Good stuffs. And hey, a new album means a new tour, right? ^_^

Ah Yes. Anime in May [May. 20th, 2008|10:24 pm]
[Current Music |Matt and Kim - Yea Yeah]

Anime Central: the one vacation I look forward to every year.

Each year gets better and better, so needless to say that ACEN 2008 was the best so far. This was also the first year I flew to Chicago (with Patty!) and made ample usage of the time we would've spent driving.

Of course there were crappy moments along the weekend. But, honestly, they're mere scratches when compared to the amount of good times and good company that were shared in the span of a few days:

1) Hung out with tons of old friends and cohorts
2) Hung out with tons of NEW friends
3) Got completely hammered (everyone knows of my wonderful tolerance thanks to my obesity </sarcasm>)
4) Played tons of DrumMania, Pop'n Music, IIDX, and Beatmania in the gameroom
5) Devised clever ways to kill Furries and fat cosplayers
6) Got completely hammered
7) Hung out with tons of awesome friends
8) Mitsuwa

Hmm. I promised myself I would start writing about these trips in LJ because I have the memory of a goldfish (Sean had to remind me of the first ACEN he came to a few years ago, where we stayed with Ryan Martin and Kuya Allen gave us free badges to be "Guest DJ's"...) There's just so much to write about! I'm grateful for everyone taking a million photos during the weekend!

Shout-outs (in order I can remember meeting up with people):
P-chan, Minh, Eddie L., Nick R., Christine H., Kelly C., Rich S., Vinh V., Chris W., Doug, Krystal C., Adam K., Dave K., Justin S., Malcolm C., Queenie W., RJ T., Lee, Kuya Allen, Mark T., Rob B., Jeff S., Suke K., Jon B., Carl C., Keith S., Dana, Pernell V., Jason E., Anne L., Joe S., Elise, Jenny W., Will E., Brian, Henry G., Garett, Alex O., Scott, June K., Lizz W., Miike M., Aubrey S., Ryan M., Jake M., Sara, Leslie Z., Phil H., Andy K., Brent B., Debbie L., Paul C., Matt M., Dan M., John B., Nozi I., Ian, John P., Stephen P., JT, TF, Rich R., Abby S., Andrew S., Avi, Renee W., Edric T., Chris A., Patty O., Kevin

I love you guys. Seriously. You're awesome people and awesome friends! My apologies to anyone who got left out. My memory sucks.

Random Funs [Jan. 28th, 2008|02:34 am]
[Current Mood | Uh huh!]
[Current Music |Meg - Love Letter]

Taken from www.inverty.com/albumcovers/albumcovers.html

1 - Go to Wikipedia's random article page
The first article you get is the name of your band

2 - Go to the Random Quotations page
The last four words of the last quote is the album title

3 - Go to Flickr's Interesting photo page
Third picture, no matter what it is, is your album cover

Put it all together to make your album. Either crop it to CD cover size, or just use the raw image itself... the only rule is you're only allowed to add the album title and artist title.

[Current Mood | bored]

Directions: Go through your journal and post the first sentence from the first entry of each month of the past year.

January: *sigh*

February: Ba ba da da

March: Know what that is?

April: None

May: "Break dancers photographed so it looks like they're falling..."

June: I know I don't post very often. I'm working on that...

July: How does a person manage to smash a keyboard at the office so that nearly all the keys are missing?

August: None

September: Many many MANY thanks to everyone who greeted me, called, messaged, and/or left comments on MySpace and Facebook for my birthday today (thus far!)

October: Yeah.

November: Okay, while most of this is rather absurd, I find it fuggin' hilarious that only TWO PERCENT found #10 on this list to be "ridiculous".

December: About 5-6 years ago, the antenna in my old Honda Accord broke off.

Not very interesting. I'm just really bored at work. I think I'll learn how to speak Icelandic today.

Lauren: I'm sorry I didn't post my FFXI screencaps last night. I'll get around to it eventually. I passed out while doing a bunch of Campaign Battles and woke up with my taru-taru face in the dirt. Good thing you don't lose EXP while participating in campaign. Reraise FTW!

I'm in the process of coding my own online multi-player Scrabble application in Adobe Flash (to stay fresh with ActionScript 3.0) and have come across a rather... interesting... discovery on Google while searching for images of board layouts and rules.

WARNING: this is Not Safe For Work!!!

1) Open a Google search page
2) Run a search for 'scrabble'
3) Hit the 'Images' search option, usually in the upper left navigation
4) Scrabble on the beach? @_@

Tuning in the Shine on the Light Night Dial [Dec. 9th, 2007|12:24 am]
[Current Mood | Over-clocked]

About 5-6 years ago, the antenna in my old Honda Accord broke off. I haven't listened to the radio ever since. Even with my new car, I'm accustomed to listening to CDs or simply thinking to myself while driving. On the flipside, 2 of my closest friends listen to everything and anything on the airwaves because their CD player doesn't work. Thanks to them, I've been introduced to two marvelous facets of music in Central Ohio (make that THREE):

1) Soulja Boy
2) Soulja Girl
3) WMRN-FM, Television 106.7

Let's talk about #3.

... a radio station that plays nothing but television themes. Okay, yeah, so you can find "Theme Song" CDs for $3 in the bargain bins next to checkout lanes at Meijer, but there's something magical about hearing them in this order:

1) Full House
2) The Monkees
3) E.R.
4) Moonlighting
5) NBA Showtime
6) Dr. Who
7) Speed Racer
8) Gigantor
9) WKRP in Cincinnati
10) Petticoat Junction
11) Yogi Bear
12) Family Feud
13) MacGuyver
14) Benny Hill

I never thought I'd get to hear the theme song to MacGuyver followed by BENNY HILL.

Alas, this is temporary. Apparently, Clear Channel is mucking with (as usual) relocating a few stations in Central Ohio and will use this theme until Thursday. After that, it'll be nuthin' but Pop Rock 'n Country. Whee!

I hope I get to hear Perfect Strangers and Bobby McFerrin's version of The Cosby Show during my commute to work. Oh, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air ^_^

Now, watch me crank dat soulja boy den superman dat hoe!!!!!!!!!!!

Within the Ancient City Walls... [Nov. 9th, 2007|12:49 am]
[Current Mood | *sniffle cough cough*]
[Current Music |Motion City Soundtrack - Broken Heart]

Okay, while most of this is rather absurd, I find it fuggin' hilarious that only TWO PERCENT found #10 on this list to be "ridiculous". I don't know what to say, I'm just so charmingly befuddled!

(From Yah00! News: taken from a poll of 3,931 Brits)

Most ridiculous British law:

1. It is illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament (27 percent)

2. It is an act of treason to place a postage stamp bearing the British monarch upside-down (seven percent)

3. In Liverpool, it is illegal for a woman to be topless except as a clerk in a tropical fish store (six percent)

4. Mince pies cannot be eaten on Christmas Day (five percent)

5. In Scotland, if someone knocks on your door and requires the use of your toilet, you must let them enter (four percent)

6. A pregnant woman can legally relieve herself anywhere she wants, including in a policeman's helmet (four percent)

7. The head of any dead whale found on the British coast automatically becomes the property of the king, and the tail of the queen (3.5 percent)

8. It is illegal to avoid telling the tax man anything you do not want him to know, but legal not to tell him information you do not mind him knowing (three percent)

9. It is illegal to enter the Houses of Parliament in a suit of armour (three percent)

10. In the city of York it is legal to murder a Scotsman within the ancient city walls, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow (two percent)
